Art with Jamila: Maryland-Inspired Handmade Books

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION - Learn collage techniques to show the colorful landscapes and seascapes of Maryland in a handmade accordion book. Led by NWB member and local teaching artist Jamila Zahra Felton, make art and summer memories with family and friends.
MORE DETAILS - All ages are welcome. Children under 6 must be accompanied by adults.
ARTIST BIO - Through book arts, collage, printmaking, and creative writing, Jamila Zahra Felton of The Beat of Blossoms explores memory, identity, love, power and Black futures. Jamila's artist books and zines are in the collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). Her artist book The Deep End: Or, Some of Us Learned How to Swim was part of NMWA's DMV Color Exhibition, which may be viewed online. Jamila is a member of Pyramid Atlantic and was its first ever Gregory Vita Paper Arts Resident. Jamila also blossoms as a librarian and educator with her family in the Washington, DC metro.
